The Complementary and Alternitive Health Paradigm Shift
Research clearly shows that ADD/ADHD, depression and anxiety is preventable! Seven out of the ten leading causes of death are from chronic conditions that are preventable. There is another way!
A New Generation of Wellness and Personal Empowerment "We are standing on the bank of the river rescuing people. We have not gone to the head of the river to keep them from falling in”. Gloria Steinem
Our existing “healthcare” system is based on “rescuing people who have fallen into the river (become sick)” instead of keeping them from falling in (prevention). Worse yet is once sickness has occurred only symptoms are treated and the causes are rarely addressed. This is why the 7 Keys for Attention Development and Emotional Wellness was founded, to create a new generation of healthcare opportunities for individuals to keep themselves emotionally and physically healthy and well through proper education and training of how the spirit/mind/emotion/body systems function best. The goal is to obtain, maintain and optimize health and to heal the underlying causes of illness in these systems to return to health. This knowledge is also the core of life extension or what is commonly known as anti-aging techniques.
Irrefutable statistics show that seven out of the ten leading causes of death are from chronic conditions that are preventable. The #1 cause of death stems from tobacco use and #2 from poor diet and inactivity. Stress is considered the leading factor which causes heart disease and predisposes MOST people to immune diseases, cancer, vascular disease and so many other illnesses. Yet where in our healthcare system are the means to help our citizens understand and overcome stress? Our "healthcare " system's response to stress is to provide billions of pills to numb the feelings of stress and disassociate the person from experiencing its underlying causes. Yet this helps lead to the third leading cause of death in this country: negative side reactions to medications!
The fact is that 75% of all health care costs occur because of of chronic illnesses and fifty percent of the adults in our country have at least one chronic condition! Is it any wonder the pharmaceutical industry sold $271 billion dollars in medications?
Our focus as a nation is treating the symptoms of illness, not preventing it from occurring or then curing the real causes. A person who uses cigarettes, alcohol , anti-depressants, sleeping pills or watching five hours a day of television to get relief from their stress and get to sleep each night, must learn to face their causes of unhappiness, anxiety, poor relationships or unsatisfying careers and make helpful changes in their thinking and lifestyles to avoid future dis-eases and cure existing ones. This means understanding how the conscious and subconscious mind and the unconscious mind-body interacts and creates wellness or illness.
Today 96% of government spending is directed toward medical treatment of symptoms and only 4% on prevention. Little to nothing is spent on resolving the causes of illness once it has occurred as symptom relief is the main emphasis. Yet with education and implementation of cause correcting actions like increasing exercise, healthier diets, learning how to relax, forgive or communicate better, prevention and cause correction has shown a full return on each investment dollar in two years and a 560% return over five years! Can you imagine how this could turn around our huge expenditures and budget deficits due to "health" care expenditures?
These research statistics don’t surprise me one bit as they match my experience. People don’t seek change until they are suffering for an extended period of time. They go for help when overly stressed, failing in relationships, diagnosed with heart disease, depression, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, sleeping or eating disorders or wanting to get off their medications from the aforementioned conditions.
The 7 Keys reaches out into the community to educate and motivate people that there is another way and if utilized they can live longer, happier, healthier and more satisfied and fulfilled….. in other words they can flourish! As our new Health and Human Resource Secretary Kathleen Sibelius recently said “We have to shift the system from a sickness system to a wellness system. We have to start to invest in prevention and wellness to make American kids healthier. LThe 7 Keys reminds us Now is the time to make the changes in your life and our country to take the motto "Yes we can" to "Yes I am! " – Let us each become the change we seek in the world by joining this pioneering effort to make healthcare really healthcare as we make a change in ourselves, in our knowledge and skills and in our community.
As reported in the Wall Street Journal Jan 9,2009
President Obama and former Sen. Tom Daschle said we need to address the fundamental causes of health and illness, and provide incentives for healthy ways of living rather than reimbursing only drugs and surgery.
Heart disease, diabetes, prostate cancer, breast cancer and obesity account for 75% of health-care costs, and yet these are largely preventable and even reversible by changing diet and lifestyle. As Obama states in his health plan, “This nation is facing a true epidemic of chronic disease. An increasing number of Americans are suffering and dying needlessly from diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, asthma and HIV/AIDS, all of which can be delayed in onset if not prevented entirely.”
The latest scientific studies show that our bodies have a remarkable capacity to begin healing, and much more quickly than we had once realized, if we address the lifestyle factors that often cause these chronic diseases. These studies show that integrative medicine can make a powerful difference in our health and well-being, how quickly these changes may occur, and how dynamic these mechanisms can be.
Many people tend to think of breakthroughs in medicine as a new drug, laser or high-tech surgical procedure. They often have a hard time believing that the simple choices that we make in our lifestyle — what we eat, how we respond to stress, whether or not we smoke cigarettes, how much exercise we get, and the quality of our relationships and social support — can be as powerful as drugs and surgery. But they often are. And in many instances, they’re even more powerful.
These studies often used high-tech, state-of-the-art measures to prove the power of simple, low-tech, and low-cost interventions. Integrative medicine approaches such as plant-based diets, yoga, meditation, and psychosocial support may stop or even reverse the progression of coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, prostate cancer, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and other chronic conditions.
A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that these approaches may even change gene expression in hundreds of genes in only a few months. Genes associated with cancer, heart disease, and inflammation were down regulated or “turned off” whereas protective genes were unregulated or “turned on.” A study published in The Lancet Oncology reported that these changes increase telomerase, the enzyme that lengthens telomeres, the ends of our chromosomes that control how long we live. Even drugs have not been shown to do this.
This is what the 7 Keys does…It addresses each of these areas of stress, lifestyle, exercise, relationships etc to help “turn on” the healing powers of the mind-body using the principles of Integrative medicine that includes yoga, meditation and many alternative techniques that have proven themselves powerful and effective.
Our “health-care system” is primarily a disease-care system. Last year, $2.1 trillion were spent in the U.S. on medical care, or 16.5% of the gross national product. Of these trillions, 95 cents of every dollar was spent to treat disease after it had already occurred. At least 75% of these costs were spent on treating chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes that are preventable or even reversible.
The choices are especially clear in cardiology. In 2006, for example, according to data provided by the American Heart Association, 1.3 million coronary angioplasty procedures were performed at an average cost of $48,399 each, or more than $60 billion; and 448,000 coronary bypass operations were performed at a cost of $99,743 each, or more than $44 billion. In other words, Americans spent more than $100 billion in 2006 for these two procedures alone.
Despite these costs, a randomized controlled trial published in April 2007 in The New England Journal of Medicine found that angioplasty and stents do not prolong life or even prevent heart attacks in stable patients (i.e., 95% of those who receive them). Coronary bypass surgery prolongs life in less than 3% of patients who receive it. So, Medicare and other insurers and individuals pay billions for surgical procedures like angioplasty and bypass surgery that are usually dangerous, invasive, expensive, and largely ineffective. Yet they pay very little — if any money at all — for integrative medicine approaches that have been proven to reverse and prevent most chronic diseases that account for at least 75% of health-care costs. The INTERHEART study, published in September 2004 in The Lancet, followed 30,000 men and women on six continents and found that changing lifestyle could prevent at least 90% of all heart disease.
That bears repeating: The disease that accounts for more premature deaths and costs Americans more than any other illness is almost completely preventable simply by changing diet and lifestyle. And the same lifestyle changes that can prevent or even reverse heart disease also help prevent or reverse many other chronic diseases as well. Chronic pain is one of the major sources of worker’s compensation claims costs, yet studies show that it is often susceptible to acupuncture and Qi Gong. Herbs usually have far fewer side effects than pharmaceuticals." (not to mention meditation, hypnosis and yoga).
The Career Opportunity
FICAM (Florida Institute of Complementary and Alternative Medicine) is the training arm of the 7 Keys was been founded on the principle that there is an excellent time for new personal and career opportunities itself to the new paradigm shift in wellness. Not only has the society begun to increasingly shift its means of health maintenance, healing and prevention to non conventional means of alternative and complementary medicine but the means of delivery of these products and services has also shifted. More and more the internet has become the platform for providing information, communication, interaction, and treatment. The exponential growth of internet based revenues has soared- and continues to do so as more personalized uses that connect the user with the service provider come online. With Skype video conferencing with any prospective client becomes easy. Now with OOVO and other group communication conferencing multiple users can be accessed. Product delivery of products, management of personalized plans of actions, interactive consultations through blogs, chat rooms, Facebook, twitter and YouTube open up new opportunities for virtual healing to prosper.
FICAM plans to be a leader on moving this forward helping align the social, medical and economic shifts in our country to emotional wellness and prevention. To ensure this occurs integrative wellness coaches specially trained in Quantum Embodiment which is the collection of methodologies FICAM uses to provide the tools and techniques to face, embrace, trace and replace blocks in the emotional body.
will guide and lead clients on a daily basis through the daily steps necessary to reach their goal. This is an essential element as research has been shown there is a 300% improvement in the benefits received from self improvement training when this occurs. Through emails, texts, twitters, Facebook, etc- coaches will be able to maintain connect to encourage, direct and provide accountability to clients to ensure success- 15 years of research and practice which has shown every person following these protocols will improve if they have the willingness and commitment to do the work necessary to make the changes that are needed in their life. Each client’s progress will be monitored online with a customized person progress report where their improvements can be seen and validated. This is what the 7 Keys program now does.
The Future is in Our Hands
We live in the world's greatest democracy that provides more freedom than any other nation ,yet our healthcare system is not set up to support this freedom in any substantial way. Unless there is available options to choose from, there isn't really any freedom! People need to be told there are non-medication alternatives and given access to these resources. People should each be provided with a multi-faceted Health Restoration and Illness Prevention Prescription that outlines what they can do to heal the causes of their illness and prevent it from reoccurring. This is what FICAM does as it teaches how to use Quantum Embodiment to review each of the major influences in a persons life, physically, mentally, emotionally ,spiritually and interpersonally to give them a plan of action to follow and a Integrative Wellness Coach to guide them though it.
Students will be trained in a variety of specially designed and scientifically proven techniques called Quantum Embodiment which include Bioenergetics, Quantum and Formative Psychology, Psychoneuroimmunology, Transpersonal Hypnosis, NLP. yoga, meditation, Quantum Breathwork, Relationship Counseling, using forgiveness therapeutically and so much more. Theses procedures have proven to be effective in reversing the symptoms and causes of mental, emotional and physical illness
